New commercial construction slows down in D-FW, but homebuilding still booms

Commercial building activity in North Texas continued to slow in September.

Dallas-Fort Worth nonresidential construction starts were down 32 percent from a year ago in the latest study by Dodge Data & Analytics.

Through the first nine months of 2018, nonresidential building activity is down 27 percent from the same period last year.

So far in 2018, Dodge Data has recorded $6.2 billion in D-FW commercial projects, down from $8.5 billion a year ago.

While nonresidential building activity has slowed, housing construction starts have increased by 8 percent this year with almost $11 billion in home and apartment projects.
