Commuters on busy U.S. Highway 75 have watched construction on Allen’s $91 million convention center and hotel for almost two years.
In two months, they’ll be able to see what’s taken so long to build.
“We have our soft opening Jan. 15,” said Michael Kennedy, a principal with project builder Altera Development. “We are rocking and rolling — it’s more finished than you think on the inside.
“Everyone’s wanted to know what it was going to be,” he said. “Some folks thought it was a prison when they saw that big 40,000-square-foot box going up.
“We are finishing out the rooms on the top floor of the hotel and the landscaping is going in,” Kennedy said. “The convention center ballroom is large enough to put the Spruce Goose in there.”
The 300-room hotel has its own meeting space and a large restaurant and bar area facing toward the pool courtyard.
